Dr. Gonzalez-Hernandez is board certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgeons and Fellowship trained in hand and upper extremity. He received his Medical Doctorate at The University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, Texas. Thereafter, he completed his 6 year long orthopedic residency program at Case Western Reserve University.  He has additional training in Europe where he spent over a year working with Prof. Maurice Muller and Prof. Diego Fernandez in Switzerland, and additional training in microsurgery in Taiwan at Chang Gung Memorial Hospital.  He completed his Hand and Upper Extremity Fellowship in the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio.  He is one of a handful of surgeons in the US with such comprehensive training, and experience operating in many countries around the world.

He is an active member of the American Association of Hand Surgeons. He was on the board of directors for the American Fracture Association and has participated in and chaired multiple instructional courses both in the United States and abroad. He regularly hosts educational events for physicians and students in an effort to expand the understanding of the surgical specialty. Dr. Gonzalez-Hernandez has been invited to speak at instructional courses and conferences around the world. He has presided as president of the international organization, “La Federacion de Mano / The Federation of Hand Societies”

He holds a masters in Physics from the University of Texas at Austin and holds more than 40 patents to his name.  He has contributed in the area of proximal humerus fractures with the most advanced plating system in the marked, demonstrating superior performance in osteoporotic bone.  Thousands of surgeons have used Dr Gonzalez’ advancements in the area of flexor tendon repair and fracture fixation.
